Public-Private Partnerships Bring Rides to NJ Seniors | GoGo Blog

For years, public-private partnerships have helped older adults stay mobile, independent, and socially connected. One standout example was the Tri-Town 55+ Coalition “Rides for Seniors” program serving Chatham Borough, Chatham Township, and Madison, New Jersey in collaboration with GoGoGrandparent.

How it began (2017)

Launched in 2017, the program made it simple for eligible older adults to request rides without a smartphone via GoGoGrandparent (through trusted providers like Uber and Lyft). Local coverage included nearby destinations in Morristown, Florham Park, Summit, Berkeley Heights, New Providence, and Millburn, connecting riders to medical care and cultural venues like the Mayo Performing Arts Center and the Paper Mill Playhouse.
Early local reporting captured the spirit and goal of the effort: to reduce isolation and make everyday trips easier for non-drivers. (See the local paper coverage: Madison Eagle article.)

Program update & conclusion (2021 → 2023)

  • 08/30/2021 – Internal announcement: Tri-Town notified riders that the Grotta Fund for Senior Care subsidy was ending and that rider accounts would be converted to standard GoGoGrandparent accounts going forward.
  • Subsequent wind-down: The coalition later completed its dissolution process. During the transition, affected riders kept their GoGoGrandparent access (same phone-based experience, 24/7 live operators, and rides through our trusted provider network).

The Tri-Town 55+ program provided thousands of trips for Chatham/Madison area residents and stands as a strong example of how local coalitions and public-private partnerships can expand mobility for older adults.

What’s available to NJ seniors today

Even though the Tri-Town 55+ subsidy has ended, GoGoGrandparent continues to support older adults across New Jersey and nationwide with a suite of phone-based services (no app required):

  • GoGoRides – 24/7 phone-based ride requests through trusted providers like Uber and Lyft.
